Anishinaabe Cultural Support Advocate and Interpreter
Summary: The Giigewigamig Traditional Healing Centre is seeking a reliable individual who will be responsible to carry out the Anishinaabe Cultural Support and Interpreter duties for the Giigewigamig Traditional Healing Centre. The hours of operation are Monday to Friday 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Anishinaabe Cultural Support Advocate and Interpreter Duties and Responsibilities:
- To provide a service to the Indigenous inpatients on-site at the Pine Falls Hospital, Sunnywood Personal Care Home, renal program and ER with major emphasis given on providing interpreter services, culturally-specific care, support and advocacy.
- Translate vital information for the patient/resident and/or family, as well as for health care staff.
- Act on behalf of the client as a result of a request for problem solving in facility-related matters between client and/or family, and staff.
- Provide Anishinaabe cultural awareness with patients and staff on-site.
- Carry out office duties as required, including maintenance of statistics, client documentation, submitting biweekly activity reports, etc.
- Perform other duties as directed by the Executive Director and Elder Council of the Giigewigamig First Nation Health Authority.
Requirements:
- Must have Experience in translating from Anishinaabemowin to English, and knowledge of the Anishinaabe culture.
- Criminal Record check/ Vulnerable sectors / Adult and Child Abuse Registry checks.
