Kookum’s Lodge offers programming and services to empower children, youth and families through Indigenous teachings and activities. Our team of staff deliver programs and services for children, youth, individuals and families.

Under the direction of Kookum’s Lodge Coordinator the Men’s Support Worker will be responsible for the planning, implementation and management of emergency accommodations for male-identifying individuals. The Men’s Support Worker will provide support, guidance and resources to individuals and families and will have the ability to work independently and within a team setting while building successful working relationships with participant families community partners and sister organizations, maintaining the integrity, philosophy and values of Kookum’s Lodge.

DUTIES:

  • Responsible for the planning, implementation and support or men’s programming to fulfil the objective of the program
  • Administrative duties as required including monthly reports, maintaining case management files, data/statistic logs and meeting the objectives of the reporting requirements
  • Developing and facilitating men’s programming
  • Responsible for attending all meetings pertaining to the program and position (including community coalitions/committees)
  • Assisting with the facilitation of community council meetings and community engagement activities
  • Provide leadership and organizational support for special events, meetings and external events for Kookum’s Lodge
  • Provide mentorship and support and monitor individual’s progress in the program
  • Support participants to access needed resources and advocate for participants on an individual basis in person or remotely through the phone or online
  • Provide male-identifying individuals with one-on-one support, education and community resources and referrals
  • Provide counselling, mentorship and support to individuals and familie
  • Other duties as may be assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Completion of certificate, diploma or degree in Health/Social services discipline is a strong asset
  • Two (2) years’ working experience in the field of mental health and/or social services is preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to work under pressure and with people
  • Proven ability to work on your own or as part of a team
  • Ability to speak the Ojibway language an asset
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and effective problem-solving ability as well as strong organizational skills
  • Knowledge of issues around substance use and harm reduction techniques
  • Ability to community effectively with clients, families and coworkers is essential
  • Must have a valid Driver’s License and a vehicle
