Reporting to the Director of Operations, the Housing Director will play a pivotal role in the development and enhancement of the First Nation’s Housing Department. The Housing Director will be responsible for the administration of and CMHC and ISC housing programs including development of housing strategies, policy reviews, staff supervision and project management.

More specifically, your responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

  • Support the development of a strategic plan for the Housing
  • Serve as Chair to the Housing Committee with a focus on policy review, applications, and governance supports
  • Prepare short and long-term housing maintenance plans as well as capital acquisition and replacement plans,
  • Oversee all renovations ensuring the community’s housing is up to code,
  • Coordinate annual housing inspections,
  • Responsible for overseeing and approving all purchases for the housing department,
  • Prepares applications for various housing programs including tenders and technical reports,
  • Advanced organizational skills to oversee operations and finances
  • Prepares and submit interim and final reports as required,
  • Research funding opportunities and develop proposals
  • Human resource management including hiring, leading, supervising, developing and scheduling of Housing employees and contractors
  • Organizes and participates in community meetings as required,
  • Engages with community members regarding housing issues,
  • Maintains accurate and detailed records including housing inventory,
  • Maintain strict confidentiality when dealing with personal information of community members and employees.
  • Responsible to ensure compliance with safety requirements for housing and teams
  • Member of the senior management team,
  • Other duties as may be

To qualify, you will need a post secondary diploma/degree in a relevant field (or equivalent) with a minimum 3 years experience preferably in the housing industry. A valid drivers license and reliable vehicle are also required.

Additionally, the following skills will be highly valued:

  • Solid understanding of housing issues, particularly in First Nations
  • Strong leadership and team building skills
  • Experienced team and organization builder
  • Excellent networking abilities
  • Demonstrated experience with budgets,
  • Experience writing grant proposals, various reports, documents and policies including those required to meet CMHC standards and requirements, and the National Building Code of Canada.
  • Experience with project management in construction, repair and renovation,
  • Demonstrated abilities in staff supervision, mentoring and skill development
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills including report writing,
  • Excellent organisational skills,
  • Proficient with computers including experience with MS Word, Outlook, and Excel
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a demonstrated ability to deal with sensitive situation with tact and diplomacy.
  • Confidence in management of housing and financial complexities
