Water Quality Monitor
Sagkeeng Health Centre

The Community Based Quality Water Monitor is responsible for delivering a high quality water monitoring program. The water quality monitor works closely with the Public Health Program and under direction of the Nurse in Charge.  The water monitor also works with clinical supervision from First Nations Inuit Health, Environmental Health Officer (EHO). The water quality monitor is responsible for testing of all public buildings and community homes as well as for arranging inspection visits with the Environmental Health Officer for homes and public buildings.

DUTIES:

  • Collection and testing of water samples at public locations weekly and collection of water samples in community homes 1-2 times annually,
  • Collection and testing once per month at semi-public locations such as public cisterns, water trucks, etc.,
  • Coordinate with Medical Transportation to transport samples to the lab in Winnipeg monthly,
  • Records and reports results to the EHO when water testing is completed and communicating results to Health Canada,
  • Maintaining confidentiality of client information as per policy,
  • Works closely with DPW for treatment of cisterns and sharing information regarding public locations requiring follow up,
  • House and building inspections and coordination with EHO to performs these inspections during EHO visits to community,
  • Delivering and posting Boil Water advisories in the community, to homes, and public organizations when required,
  • Assisting in rabies prevention program and public health education events,
  • Support community members in accessing high quality water.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School Diploma or GED,
  • Valid Driver’s License, clear driving record,
  • Possession and use of a reliable vehicle as most of the job requires one to be performing public and home visits,
  • CPR/First Aid Certification is an asset,
  • Experience with computer programs including Word, Excel and PowerPoint is beneficial,
  • Demonstrates effective problem solving and organizations skills,
  • Ability to work independently and as part of the health care team,
  • Excellent verbal and written skills, ability to communicate and develop positive working relationships with community members and the health care team,
  • Knowledge of First Nations communities, social and health services, challenges and opportunities unique to First Nation communities and programs,
  • Preference will be given to persons of aboriginal ancestry with priority given to Sagkeeng Band Members.
