To date Sagkeeng has provided the following documents to Canada in fulfillment of it’s requirements in accordance with the Sagkeeng Anicinabe Nation Treaty Land Entitlement Agreement. An electronic copy of these documents was provided and the hard copy package was also couried to Canada as of February 26, 2026.
- 3 inked copies of the Settlement Agreement.
- Solicitor’s certificate.
- Order in Council confirming the results of the Ratification vote.
- Order in Council Resolution for Payment.
- Certificate of Vote Results from the Ratification Officer.
The Minister of Indigenous Services now must sign off on the document package at which point Canada has 45 days to transfer payment into the Sagkeeng Trust Account.
RBC Trust is the Trustee and will be responsible for making an Application Form available to band members 18+ to apply for payment. I’ve emailed to inquire as to an approximate date that the funds may be transferred and when applications may be made available.
THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW:
All band members alive as of January 10, 2026 are entitled to apply for the payment.
Band Members who have passed away after January 10, 2026 may have their TLE payments paid out to their estate after providing a “legal declaration of death and evidence of the legal appointment of an authorized representative”
Children born on or before January 10, 2026 and are entitled to be registered Sagkeeng band members must be registered as soon as possible to be eligible to apply for the payment when they turn 18. Adults who do not have the legal capacity to apply on their own must have a legal representative apply on their behalf. RBC Trust will only pay their TLE payment to their legal representative.
Sagkeeng does not have a Registry Clerk at this time. A person is currently being trained for this job.
Sagkeeng is working to schedule information sessions with RBC Trust about the Application Forms for the TLE payment and having support in filling out the forms when they become available.
