First Nation Representative Services Manager
Full-Time (Permanent Position)

Under the supervision of the Ogimaa Kinewak Director, the First Nation Representative Services (FNRS) Manager will assist in the development of First Nation Representative Services program in Sagkeeng. The FNRS program will provide advocacy for families engaged with CFS and will act as a liaison between CFS agencies and the Nation, ensuring that the best interests of Sagkeeng children and families are prioritized.

DUTIES:

  • Work closely with Ogimaa Kinewak Director to ensure culturally safe and relevant program development and delivery and accurate reporting.
  • Act as main contact between Sagkeeng First Nation and child and family services providers/agencies, exercising the legal rights of Sagkeeng First Nation under provincial and federal child and family services law.
  • Help children and families engaged with the child and family services system to build and maintain cultural, familial and community connections.
  • Support Sagkeeng children and families during family court and child and family services administrative proceedings.
  • Support Sagkeeng children and families by participating in the development and monitoring of service agreements and case planning with child and family service providers.
  • Conduct research to support the development of the program, including environmental scans, literature reviews and community consultation.
  • Maintain accurate, up-to-date records and files, and carries out other administrative duties as requested by the Program Director.
  • Other related duties as assigned by supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor of Social Work or equivalent degree preferred.
  • One (1) to three (3) years of previous work experience in a social service environment or related field.
  • Must be willing to work flexible hours and travel on short notice.
  • Knowledge of intergeneration trauma in Indigenous contexts, trauma-informed theory and practice.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the Child and Youth Family Services Act and proceedings involving the First Nation’s children.
  • Training and/or experience in program planning, implementation, presentation, evaluation/report writing.
  • Must be able to interpret legal documents and legislation.
  • Strong conflict resolution and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of computer programs (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.).
  • Experience in the delivery of child and family wellbeing programs is an asset.
  • Experience within Family Law and Alternative Dispute Resolution is an asset.
  • Experience working in a First Nations community or population is an asset.
  • Knowledge and experience in Anishinaabe traditional culture, language and ceremony is an asset.
