Position Summary:
Under the direction of the Principal, the Teacher serves as an innovative educational leader responsible for delivering high-quality instruction in day, evening, and, when required, online education programs. The Teacher plans, organizes, directs, and manages all aspects of classroom operations, including curriculum development, course requirements, instructional delivery, assessment, and coordination of educational activities such as field trips.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver grade-appropriate curriculum using instructional strategies tailored to diverse learning styles and multi-level learners.
- Design lesson plans that support culturally responsive education and promote student progression and academic success.
- Plan, prepare, and deliver relevant and engaging lessons while monitoring and assessing student performance.
- Utilize a variety of instructional delivery methods, including whole-group instruction, small-group learning, individualized support, and educational technology.
- Develop and administer assessments to evaluate student progress and foster a positive learning environment.
- Maintain accurate student registration, attendance, and assessment records, ensuring timely submission of required data (including Dadavan input).
- Supervise, support, and evaluate assigned Education Assistant(s).
- Participate actively in school committees, meetings, and reporting processes.
- Research and implement innovative teaching methods and participate in pilot or experimental instructional programs within SEA Education Programs.
- Pursue ongoing professional development opportunities.
- Model professional and ethical conduct as a positive role model for students.
- Confer and collaborate with students, parents/guardians, colleagues, and administration regarding academic matters.
- Assist in the planning, implementation, and monitoring of graduation-related activities.
- Teach a minimum of 3.0 full course equivalents during the academic year.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the Principal and/or Vice-Principal.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Education preferred; a combination of relevant education, training, and experience may be considered.
- Must hold or be eligible for Manitoba Teacher Certification.
- Several years of experience working with children, youth, and adolescents in a positive educational setting.
- Experience working with students with special needs is an asset.
- Demonstrated ability to build and maintain positive working relationships and work both collaboratively and independently.
- Knowledge of assigned subject areas and willingness to learn new subject matter and instructional methods.
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to speak or understand Anishinaabemowin is an asset.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to prepare comprehensive reports.
- Proven classroom management skills.
- Highly motivated and committed to student success.
- Strong teamwork skills and ability to serve as a positive role model; commitment to maintaining a healthy, drug-free lifestyle.
- Strong work ethic, including reliability, punctuality, and consistent attendance.
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality regarding students, staff, and families.
- Experience in conflict resolution is an asset.
- Valid driver’s licence and access to a reliable vehicle.
Compensation and benefits for teaching staff are competitive and comparable to those offered by other school divisions throughout the province.
