Community Support Worker (Term: Until March 31, 2026)

Working as a member of the Mental Health & Wellness team, the Community Support Worker (CSW) provides support to children, adults, and families who are involved in the First Nations Child and Family Services and Jordan’s Principle Settlement. This includes community outreach, case management, treatment support, counseling, group facilitation, and community programming. The CSW is a liaison between families, advocates, other government and community-based agencies and the individuals you serve.

DUTIES:

  • Completing Claim applications with individuals providing Mental health and Emotional support, ensure eligibility for claim process.
  • Facilitating culturally based groups
  • Traditional healers & elders as needed for additional support Develop Wellness plans for individuals and referrals for supports identified
  • Monitor progress of applications and supports provided
  • Participate in team meetings
  • This position may require participation in traditional and cultural ceremonies or events
  • Attend Workshops/ trainings for ongoing professional development
  • Attendance to conferences to support clients as requested
  • Collect data for monthly, quarterly and annual reports
  • Participate in Case management meetings as needed for mutual clients with other service providers
  • Flexibility for Evening or weekends may be requested as part of work hours
  • Other duties assign with in scope of position

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum of a Completion of a Post – Secondary Education in Counselling Services (Certificate, Diploma or degree). ASIST, MHFA or MHFAFN Trauma Informed care training will be considered an asset.
  • Must have a demonstrated understanding and grounding in Indigenous ways of knowing, doing, and being along with relevant experience and connection to the community. Comfort with Indigenous ceremony is considered essential. Familiarity with Indigenous customs and protocols will also be a necessity.
  • Knowledge and understanding of Indigenous culture and traditions and the impact of colonization on the health and wellbeing of Indigenous individuals and families.
  • A minimum of five (5) years of experience working with Indigenous people and families.
  • A minimum of three (3) years of experience working in the areas of mental health and crisis intervention.
  • Strong interpersonal skills including the ability to interact sensitively, respectfully and in a non-judgmental manner
  • Case management experience in an integrated services environment that includes brief counselling, conducting assessments, service planning and coordination, resource development and follow up.
  • Ability to manage high volume caseloads and competing demands within a complex and fast paced work environment.
  • Ability to work independently and exercise initiative within a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Proven knowledge and ability in relationship building, critical thinking, group facilitation, decision making, problem solving, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize and focus work-related activities to effectively and efficiently achieve service goals and produce expected results/outcomes
  • Proven ability to work within an interdisciplinary team environment with respect, professionalism, cooperation, sensitivity, and cultural awareness
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and proficiency in the use of computer systems.
  • Knowledge in the Child and Family Services sector.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Work, Excel and Outlook) or similar software applications and data-based systems.
  • 18 years of age or older
  • Valid Class 5 Manitoba Driver’s License and access to a reliable registered vehicle.
