Under the direction of the Income Assistance Director, the Intake Worker will be responsible for administering the income assistance program in accordance with established policies and procedures and for the benefit of eligible individuals and families who reside on Sagkeeng First Nation.

DUTIES:

  • Carry out a preliminary assessment of the financial and related needs of applicants and provide them with advice, information and counselling as required,
  • Determine eligibility for income assistance through verifying the information provided and obtaining supporting documentation as required from the applicant or other sources,
  • Assist in the completing monthly budgets and decision sheets and other documents as required to determine the amount of assistance to be granted to the applicant, make changes to their monthly budget or pay for services on their behalf,
  • Identify other benefits or services that may be available to the individual or family (eg: Old Age Security, etc) and provide information to client,
  • Assist applicants and recipients in identifying training and employment needs and goals and in accessing programs available,
  • Open and maintain clients records on income assistance applicants and recipients to record information and store forms and documents related to determining eligibility
  • Administer income assistance funds on behalf of applicants when necessary to ensure that family members receive the income support,
  • Other duties as required

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be a strong team player, but also must have the ability to work independently with minimal supervision,
  • Must have Grade 12 or equivalent,
  • Knowledge of federal, provincial and local social assistance and social service programs,
  • Experience in interviewing,
  • Counselling skills an asset
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks with various deadlines,
  • Strong organizational and time management skills,
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Very reliable with excellent attendance
  • Must be comfortable working with clients and filling out paperwork.
  • Must be comfortable using computers, particularly Microsoft Office,
  • Must have a valid Driver’s licence and a vehicle they can use to visit clients,
