Mental Health Worker
Sagkeeng Anicinabe High School – Term Position

DUTIES:

  • Develop, facilitate, and/or coordinate culturally sensitive and trauma-informed workshops and/or training in the areas of domestic/family violence, anger management, sexual abuse and violence, addictions, suicide prevention and intervention, depression, grief, anxiety, and other areas of mental health
  • Facilitate and coordinate client-centered case management through both one-on-one client support and collaboration with internal and external service providers
  • Respond to and provide mental health support and crisis intervention as needed in the schools while adhering to health and safety protocols
  • Provide client referrals to appropriate specialist services such as addiction specialists, mental health therapists, and other internal/external organizational services.
  • Conduct relevant holistic or biopsychosocial assessments
  • Provide one-on-one support to individuals involved with the judicial system using a restorative practice model
  • Adopt and utilize a harm reduction approach in working with clients living with alcohol or substance use disorder
  • Support and assist in carrying out harm reduction activities, services, and events
  • Develop workplan for student(s)
  • Provide reports of activities to supervisor upon request or required interval
  • Other related duties as assigned by supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor of Social Work or equivalent degree preferred
  • Minimum 2 years working in a mental health, addictions, or related field
    • Combination of education/training, work experience, and life experience will be considered
  • Working knowledge and adaptation of the harm reduction model into work and life experience is an asset
  • Training and/or experience in counselling and crisis intervention is a strong asset
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Group facilitation and presentation skills are a must
  • Excellent team-based attitude required
  • Experience working in a First Nations community or population is an asset
