Kookum’s Lodge is looking for Community Support Workers to provide help to at risk and vulnerable clients, you will work with youth who are ageing out of care, children who have been placed out of the community, families who ae dealing with addictions, grandparents, and new mothers.

Duties

  • Plan and deliver culturally appropriate programming @ recreations activities to meet client’s needs,
  • Assist and support individuals, families and community members in areas of preventative and protections services,
  • Identify and address needs of children and families so as to connect to community resources and services,
  • Transportation to and from community appointments, this could include medical, employment and personal care appointments,
  • Understanding of community issues and opportunities and assisting clients with general access and participation in the community,
  • Provide daily progress and feedback to the supervisor on client outcomes. Log progress outcomes and document individual achievements,
  • Maintain open and professional communication between community partners, families/guardians, peers and supervisor,
  • Maintain clear and objective records, preparing report and other documentation in a professional and timely manner,
  • Other duties as may be assigned.

Qualifications

  • Completion of a certificate, diploma or degree in Health/Social services discipline is a strong asset,
  • Two (2) years’ working experience in the field of mental health and/or social services is preferred,
  • Demonstrated ability to work under pressure and with people,
  • Proven ability to work on your own or as part of a team,
  • Ability to speak the Ojibway language is an asset,
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and effective problem-solving ability as well a strong organizational skill,
  • Knowledge of issues around substance use and harm reduction techniques,
  • Ability to community effectively with clients, families and coworkers is essential,
  • Must have valid Driver’s Licence, willing to obtain a class 4 Driver’s Licence
  • Must have a vehicle
