Guardians Program Manager
Full-Time (Permanent Position)
DESCRIPTION: We are looking for a dynamic individual to join the Sagkeeng Anicinabe Government as the Niigan Aki Manager, overseeing the Guardians Program. This role is vital for integrating environmental stewardship, cultural safeguarding, program administration, staff leadership, partnership development, and fundraising initiatives.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead the design and implementation of land and water stewardship programs that align with community priorities and conservation goals.
- Oversee monitoring programs related to land, water, wildlife, ecosystems, and cultural sites.
- Uphold cultural protocols and promote intergenerational knowledge transfer through land-based learning opportunities.
- Recruit and maintain a safe, respectful, and culturally grounded workplace, ensuring compliance with health and safety standards.
- Represent Sagkeeng in regional and national stewardship forums to enhance capacity and funding through collaborations.
- Identify funding opportunities and lead the development of proposals for grants and contracts.
- Manage program budgets and financial tracking while ensuring compliance with community data governance principles.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Degree in Environmental Science, Natural Resources, Indigenous Studies, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and lived experience.
- Experience in Indigenous land and water stewardship or conservation.
- Commitment to community-driven conservation and Indigenous governance.
- Strong understanding of Sagkeeng/First Nations cultures and protocols.
- Proven leadership and project management skills.
- Ability to manage staff, budgets, and multi-partner projects effectively.
- Capability to work independently and collaboratively in various settings.
- Willingness to travel and work on the land under varying conditions.
- Valid Class 5 driver’s license.
- Satisfactory Criminal Record Check, Vulnerable Sector Search, and Child Abuse Registry Check.
