Child Development Support Worker
Position Summary: Sagkeeng Education Authority is seeking a Child Development Support Worker to provide care and support for children in an early learning environment. This role focuses on fostering a nurturing, culturally inclusive, and developmentally appropriate setting for children, ensuring their emotional, social, cognitive, and physical well-being. The ideal candidate will have experience working with Indigenous children and families and will incorporate culturally relevant practices into daily activities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in implementing play-based learning activities aligned with Manitoba’s Early Learning and Child Care (ELCC) Curriculum Framework and Sagkeeng’s cultural values and traditions.
- Support children’s individual development by providing one-on-one and small-group assistance in learning and social interactions.
- Foster a safe, positive, and inclusive environment that promotes holistic child development.
- Work collaboratively with educators, families, and community members to support children’s learning and well-being.
- Provide care and guidance to children, promoting self-regulation, emotional well-being, and independence.
- Assist children with personal care needs as required.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized learning environment.
- Communicate with parents/guardians to provide updates on child progress and well-being.
- Adhere to Sagkeeng Education Authority policies, Manitoba’s Community Child Care Standards Act, and health and safety regulations.
- Other duties assigned by the supervisor within scope of position
Qualifications:
Education & Training:
- Health Care Aide, Early Childhood Education (ECE) Level I or II, or hold a post-secondary training in Disability and Community Support.
- Additional training in child development, special needs support, or trauma-informed care is an asset.
Experience:
- Experience working with children in an early learning or school setting.
- Knowledge of Indigenous culture, language, and traditions (Sagkeeng First Nation preferred).
Certifications:
- Valid First Aid and CPR Level C certification.
- Clear Child Abuse Registry Check and Criminal Record Check (including Vulnerable Sector Screening).
Skills & Attributes:
- Strong understanding of child development principles and best practices.
- Ability to incorporate Indigenous cultural perspectives into early childhood education.
- Patience, empathy, and a passion for working with children.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Working knowledge of Office 365.
- Ability to work collaboratively with families, educators, and community members.
- Valid Class 5 driver’s license.
