We are recruiting for the Sagkeeng Anicinabae Nation (SAN) for the exciting leadership role of Human Resources Director (HR Director). This is a unique opportunity to shape and lead the human resources function within a dynamic, community-focused organization.  The role is pivotal in fostering a positive, inclusive workplace culture and aligning HR strategies with the Nation’s mission, values, and long-term goals.

As HR Director, you will serve as a trusted advisor to the Chief and Council and senior leadership, leading initiatives that enhance talent development, employee engagement, and organizational effectiveness. This is an exciting leadership opportunity to make a lasting impact on the workforce and the broader community.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic HR Leadership

  • Advise Chief and Council and senior management on HR strategies, workforce planning, succession, and organizational development.

Policy Development & Governance

  • Develop, implement, and maintain HR policies and procedures aligned with best practices and community values.

Talent Management & Workforce Development

  • Lead recruitment, onboarding, retention, professional development, and succession planning initiatives.

Performance Management & Employee Relations

  • Foster a positive, inclusive workplace culture, supporting performance management, conflict resolution, and employee engagement.

Community Engagement & Cultural Alignment

  • Build strong relationships with employees, community members, and stakeholders to promote equity, communication, and alignment with organizational priorities.

Compliance & Risk Management

  • Ensure adherence to employment laws, workplace safety standards, and risk management requirements.

HR Technology & Data Management

  • Utilize HR systems and data to streamline processes, track metrics, and inform decision-making.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field (asset) and or Professional HR designation (CHRP or CIHRP preferred).
  • Minimum 5 years of progressive HR management experience, with at least 10 years in HR or general management.
  • Demonstrated experience working within a First Nations community or understanding of Indigenous cultural and operational contexts.
  • Proven expertise in policy development, leadership, capacity-building, and performance management.
  • Strong knowledge of federal and provincial employment laws relevant to First Nations organizations.
  • Proficiency in HR software and familiarity with emerging HR technologies.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, analytical, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage conflict, lead change, and foster a positive, high-performing workplace culture.
